ECOWAS workshop officially opened with a keynote speech aimed to address the challenges posed by aflatoxin in animal feed and to develop a comprehensive regional framework for traceability, monitoring and management.
The event formed part of the European Union’s support for the ECOWAS Agricultural Policy (ECOWAP) through the PRISMA project, implemented by Enabel, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and LUXDEV.

Highlighted in the workshop is the need for a sustainable feed and fodder system across the region and stressed the importance of a strong monitoring and evaluation framework to guide evidence-based interventions.
However, ECOWAS was commended for prioritising the issue of feed and fodder, noting that it remains one of the major cost drivers in livestock production and a critical factor in achieving sustainable and competitive livestock systems.
